Obama: desperate in Colorado

We see today in the New York Times that Colorado Senator Michael Bennet and Barack Obama are becoming tightly linked.  And what a couple!  I posted exactly two years ago on Bennet, a wealthy financier who’s one of the prime cheerleaders for Bowles-Simpson and cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other “entitlements”.

Obama, having offered to increase the Medicare age and slash Social Security, having done pathetically little to help the under and unemployed, having mimicked the national security policies of his predecessor, and having built an administration composed of Wall Street cronies, has a gaping differentiation problem.  Rhetoric aside, what exactly separates him from Romney?

Bennet, of the same mold, had the same basic problem in 2010.  His solution, and it worked by a total of 15,000 votes, was to play the abortion card against his Republican opponent.  “We did stitch together a winning coalition in 2010”, Bennet tells us, “and I think that coalition is part of the basis of what they are doing here in Colorado”.  Obama, we’re informed, will copy this strategy and go for the woman vote.  And per Bennet, “I am not sure there has been an election where women have a clearer choice.”

On the abortion issue perhaps, but almost certainly on little else of importance.  Thank God for abortion – what would the Democrats do without it?  I can’t help but be reminded of a dinner I had back in the late nineties with a guy who, as a Democrat, very narrowly lost a US senate race in Virginia.  I listened for well over an hour as he tirelessly praised the military, Reagan, and business.  I eventually asked him what differentiated him from a Republican.  Good question he laughed and thought for a moment.  And another moment.  It was getting awkward.  Abortion!  I favor the right to abortion.

I live in Colorado. As mentioned before, Obama would need to do a complete reversal on some serious policy positions to get my vote.  I, for one, will no longer blindly vote for the lesser of two evils in the great fraud that’s called US democracy.  I know I’m not the only one in Colorado to feel this way.
