You call this a compromise?

July 19, 2011

What an odious looking plan being sold to the American public as a bipartisan compromise!  As I read it, medicare, medicaid, and social security will be cut and non-military spending slashed.  Military spending will be hit for $80 billion over 10 years, a completely meaningless number in a budget of $750 billion per year!  And taxes aren’t being raised at all, they’re being reduced!

So the answer to the “deficit crisis” is to slash programs for the vast majority, cut taxes for the wealthy, and continue spending more on the military than the rest of the world combined!  This is not a serious plan, it’s class warfare.  Truly unbelievable that a party claiming to be of the “center-left” could approve such a travesty.  Why not just merge with the Republicans so we can eliminate the useless costs of elections?

This has to be one of the sorriest hours for the Democratic Party even when considering its long sordid history.
