Mark Udall & Michael Bennet: servants of wealth
It’s not at all surprising to see my home state Colorado senators praising the “Gang of 6 compromise” that slashes high end tax rates while cutting social security, medicare, medicaid, and other programs. But it’s still sickening.
Here’s Bennet:
“In town halls across our state, Coloradans tell me they want a plan that materially reduces the deficit, shows we are all in it together and is bipartisan,” Bennet said in a statement. “The plan should also reassure the capital markets that the paper they’ve bought is worth what they paid for it and is not at risk.”
And Udall:
“Now more than ever, Republicans and Democrats have to come together to find a balanced, bipartisan proposal that ensures our budget isn’t balanced solely on the backs of middle-class families.”
Here’s the latest write up from the Gang of 6 that these two servants of wealth are praising. Spending on all important programs that benefit the vast majority in Colorado are being cut while, incredibly, top tax rates are substantially reduced. That’s right – reduced! Bennet and Udall are supporting a plan that reduces high end tax rates while cutting social security, medicare, medicaid, and most other domestic programs! And the bloated military is projected to be cut by only $80 billion over 10 years, nothing in a budget that’s over $750 billion per year!
Bennet, who made millions in the capital markets, seems very concerned about his friends on Wall Street; too bad the overwhelming majority of his constituents lack the wealth to hold any “paper”. Udall speaks correctly in one respect though: the plan won’t balance the budget solely on the backs of the middle class – the lower classes, after all, will also share a very large burden.
This isn’t shared sacrifice, it’s a fraud on the citizens of Colorado. Bennet and Udall should be ashamed of themselves for so blatantly favoring their fellow patricians over their constituents.
