No to intervention in Libya!
A moral case could possibly be made to intervene in Libya but I don’t think countries with such abysmal records as the US, UK, or France can make it. Can one point to even one noble action ever undertaken by these countries in the middle east? History up through today is nothing but an unending display of naked power in which either pliant dictators are propped up against the wills of the people or countries are simply invaded. Just take a moment and reflect on the sorry history of Algeria, Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, not to mention Israel’s horrible oppression of Palestine.
If the western powers were truly interested in doing something good, how about getting serious about world poverty, or maybe go after malaria which happens to kill a million a year? It seems downright perverted that, with all the problems in the world today, the west yet again feels a need to point its “altruism” in the direction of a country which just happens to have oil.
I’m adamantly opposed to further interventions in foreign countries. We’ve done enough harm.
Listening to the President last night made me do a double-take. I thought it is was George W. Bush. I’m so disappointed. I don’t know how he can say with a straight face that we aren’t taking sides in a civil war.
